Movimientos brings you the hottest new Latin-London sounds from Lokandes, Wara and Los Chinches as well as Afro-Cuban ska rhythms from the massive Ska Cubano. Be prepared to feast your ears and eyes on original new music from Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Carribean, UK and more!!
Wara have concocted an epic musical genre of their very own with Cuban roots. A hot melting pot of identities: Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Ghana, Congo, Spain and the UK. With soulful, contagious vocals from Congolese-Argentinean lead Juanita Euka (niece of legendary Congolese musician Franco), inspired keyboard flourishes from MD Eliane Correa, MC Murmur quick on the London hip hop and a super tight Latin/UK mix on the rhythm section, their musical energy is palpable. Their EP “Flesh and Bone” is out now on Movimientos Records.
Los Chinches, the wayward kings of tropical rock’n’roll, have emerged defiantly from the London-Latin scene. They draw upon the style of Cumbia developed in Peru in the 1960s - known as 'Chicha' – which, along with their rocking tropical energy, makes for blistering live performances!! Their debut album ‘Fongo’ is out this year on Movimientos Records.
Ska Cubano have an addictive sound that fuses the traditions bought by each band member. Formed from the best Cuban, Jamaican and other Caribbean musicians in London, they draw on the 1980s ska movement and roots music to create ‘Cuban Ska’.
Lokandes are led by whirlwind super musician Kanti Qena, with Jeanette always masterful on the flutes, they take the traditional melodies and styles of Andean music and combine them with Son, Reggae, Afro-Latin rhythms and a pinch of high energy psychedelia to create a red-hot fusion of sound. Lokandes unites musicians and instruments from Peru, Bolivia, Spain, France, China and the UK, which defines their highly original music, alongside conscious lyrics and a cracking Latin rhythm section.
